The Great Neck Park District is proud to offer a wide array of hockey programming for players of all skill levels. From our partnership with the New York Rangers and our NEW Learn-to-Play program, to our Bruins Travel teams competing in the LIAHL, the 2019-2020 hockey season will have the options you are looking for!
Part of an initiative set forth by the NHL and USA Hockey to promote the sport of Ice Hockey to new generations of athletes. This introductory level hockey program is for kids ages 5 to 9 years old, with little to no hockey experience at all. This low cost program provides new players with free full sets of equipment and all instruction is provided by the NYR Hockey Development team, partnered with Great Neck Park District coaching staff.
The Bruins Development Program is the Park District's mid-level development program, geared toward preparing ice hockey players for the next level of competition. Following USA Hockey's American Development Model (ADM), our coaching staff will organize station-based practices to increase puck touches and overall on-ice activity. This two day program for children ages 5 to 12 years old, will feature one practice day, along with one session dedicated to small sided, cross-ice games.
The Bruins Travel Program is the Park District's competitive hockey program. Players ages 5 to 18 years old tryout for a chance to participate with the Bruins in the Long Island Amateur Hockey League in the Tier III division. The primary goal of this program is to help each player realize their full potential as hockey players, by fostering competitiveness and sportsmanship in an environment that promotes fun of the game, while developing hockey skills. Players will have two training sessions weekly, prepared by our coaching staff, with anywhere from 25-40 games throughout the season.
