Great Neck Swim Team Wins 1st Place
at the Nassau Municipal Swim Conference Division II Championships
Thursday, March 16 and Sunday, March 19, the Division II Swim Championships were held at Great Neck South Middle School and Hewlett High School, respectively. Great Neck and Freeport competed Thursday with Uniondale and Hewlett competing on Sunday. The results of both meets merged for one championship; measuring each swimmer’s race time and calculating team scores to crown a champion team.
The outcome of the meet was decided by perfect swims vs. disqualifications. The Great Neck team swam forty events with no disqualifications. All other teams had at least one disqualification which put Great Neck at an immediate advantage. Harrison Weinberg, son of Thomaston Mayor Steve Weinberg, set a new county record in the 11/12 year old backstroke leading the Great Neck Swim Team to their victory.
The girls swam sixteen individual events, thirteen of which earned their best individual time for the year. The boys swam fourteen individual events, eight of which earned their best individual time of the year.
