Olympic swimmer, 19 yr. old Kate Douglass, won the bronze medal (200-meter individual medley) this summer in Tokyo. She made a presentation at Parkwood Family Aquatic Center on 8/16, shared autographs and took photos with members of Queens Aquatics.
Kate grew up in Pelham and began swimming when she was 8 yrs. old. At age 11, she began working with Coach Jonah Montgomery (second from left). Together with his assistant Coach Kris Sweetman (left) they coach the Queens Aquatics team weekday mornings at Parkwood Family Aquatic Center throughout the summer. Great Neck Park District's Lt. Lifeguard Erick Zizic (right), opens daily at 5:45 a.m. for the swimmers. Dan Marsella (second from right), GN Park District Aquatic Director coordinates all of the programs and events at the pool.
Douglass, was a standout swimmer in Westchester for most of her teenage years, and now swims for the University of Virginia.
