[ARCHIVED] Date Change for the Pumpkin Smash at Steppingstone Park

IMG-6513

We changed the date of our Pumpkin Smash due to the impending weather report for 11/28. Use our pumpkins from the fall display or bring your own on Sun. Dec. 4, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Come down to Steppingstone Park and have a smashing good time! It's a great way to celebrate the season in a sustainable way! The GNPD will repurpose them into compost which is used to revitalize the soils in our parks, gardens and other green spaces. If you don't have your own pumpkin, choose one to smash from our amazing fall display.

Pumpkin Smash is designed to help divert seasonal organic waste from landfills as well as educate people on composting and food waste reduction. Nutrient-rich soil promotes healthier plant beds and insulates plants during the winter by helping them retain water. Collecting horticultural and food scraps also reduces our waste stream and supports the Park's overall sustainability.

You can also bring your old pumpkins to a food scrap drop-off site near you. For a map of food scrap drop-off sites, click here or just put it in your own compost bin.
